Introducing Campus Augarten

The Vienna Boys Choir is more than a choir, it is an entire campus
The Vienna Boys Choir is one of the most famous choirs in the world. Founded 526 years ago by Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I, the singers represent Austria all over the world. In 2017, the choir's singing tradition and training was added to UNESCO cultural heritage list. By now, it has grown into an entire campus attended by 330 boys and girls. All students attend the schools on campus, and all sing in one of the choirs. Singing is at the centre of their education.

The Choir's President, Erich Arthold, sees the choir as model for an ideal society: "This fall, the Vienna Girls Choir will finally join us as students on campus; this means that our training programme is finally complete." The holistic education is open to everyone, regardless of origin, gender, nationality or religion: boys and girls interested in singing can audition at any time.

Recent graduates include internationally successful actor and singer Christoph Stocker (23), actor Tilman Tuppy (29), ensemble member at Vienna's renowned Burgtheater, pianist Lukas Sternath (23), double bass virtuoso Dominik Wagner (27) and "folkshilfe" frontman Florian Ritt (33). TV presenter and singer Johanna Berki is also an alumna: she was one of the first members of the Vienna Girls Choir in 2004.
