Mamma, son tanto felice

Mothers' Day Special at Vienna's Musikverein

Following the success of last year's 525th Anniversary Concert, we return to the stage of Vienna's famous Musikverein for a Mothers' Day Special, featuring two of our boys' choirs, the Vienna Girls Choir, Chorus Primus, and Chorus Juventus. The choirs will be accompanied by an ensemble of instrumentalists: Erasmus Baumgartner is the Artistic Director.

The programme offers a choice of beautiful melodies and choral favourites, among them "Mamma, son tanto felice" by Cesare Bixio, originally written for Beniamino Gigli, "Hail, Holy Queen" from the movie Sister Act. "J'entends the moulin" is a French-Canadian folk song, delivered in a spellbinding version featuring voice percussion and clapping. "Cantate Domino", a motet by Renaissance composer Hans Leo Hassler, has the boys show off their mastery of a cappella classics, while they show their sense of fun in Irving Berlin's "There's No Business Like Show Business".

The entire Campus will be on stage - the youngest performers are the children of Chorus Primus, who open the second part of the show with "Seasons of Love". They are joined by the Vienna Girls Choir, who will also sing a piece by Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn, Felix Mendelssohn's sister. Chorus Juventus then performs a piece by tune-yards, and a piece by Joseph Gabriel Rheinberger. For the Grand Finale, all singers join forces to sweep the audience of their feet, with "Adiemus" and Handel's "Hallelujah" chorus. Not just perfect for mothers, but for the entire family.
