Bruckner in the Imperial Chapel
2024 marks the 200th anniversary of Anton Bruckner's birth: The composer was
born on 4 September 1824 in Ansfelden, Upper Austria.
In 1868, Bruckner became organist in the Chapel Imperial, and by the same token, singing and piano teacher of the ten court choristers - there are many anecdotes about that. His Mass in d minor was composed in 1864; three years later, it was performed by the Chapel Imperial in Vienna - conducted by court Kapellmeister Johann Ritter von Herbeck. Martin Schebesta conducts.
