Jacobus Vaet, the composer of this motet, came from Kortrijk in Flanders. Trained there as a choirboy, he first became a singer in the chapel of Emperor Charles V before joining the chapel of Archduke Maximilian, who later became Emperor Maximilian II.. Vaet was court kapellmeister in Vienna; he was held in high esteem by his contemporaries - the emperor in particular loved Vaet's music. The piece features on our Good Shepherds CD; and you can read more about Vaet and his role at the Viennese court in our book, Ein Chor erobert die Welt (A Choir Conquers the World).
